Two teenagers involved in Waltham pedestrian accident

Is there any parent in Boston who hasn’t breathed a sigh of relief when their teenage children turn into young adults in their 20s? The teenage years are a time of many changes for parents as well as teenagers.

According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, teenagers are about 14 percent of the driving population, and yet they account for 30 percent of motor vehicle accidents. The CDC reports that motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teenagers overall.

According to news sources, two teenagers were involved in an accident in Waltham recently. A 15-year-old teenager was crossing a street near his school when he was struck by a 17-year-old driving a minivan. The pedestrian accident in Middlesex County occurred after school at about 3:45 p.m.

The street on which the accident took place is near John F. Kennedy Middle School. The 15-year-old was crossing Lexington Street in an area that was described as residential on one side of the street and with a YMCA on the other side of the street. It was not stated whether or not there is a cross walk at that location.

When police arrived on the scene, the 15-year-old was unconscious. He was transported via helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston and is reportedly in stable condition. The extent of his injuries was not made public.

In an accident such as this, there are no doubt two families who are suffering. However, the 17-year-old may potentially be held liable for negligence and could also be held accountable for damages suffered by the 15-year-old, including pain and suffering.
