Workplace accident leaves young child without father

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Friday September 18, 2015

The wife of a 32-year-old man speaks of the birthday dinner she had with her family. On her social media posts, she notes how blessed she felt while having a meal with her husband and young daughter. Unfortunately, she was unaware that her life would soon be flipped upside down. The next day, her husband was killed in a workplace accident. As many families in Massachusetts have also experienced, this woman will likely have to face the financial complications her husband’s death will create for her family.

Reports indicate that the accident happened in September. The victim was the shop manager at 275 Truck Service, a company that services and repairs trucks. The man apparently became trapped under a fire ambulance on which he was working.

His co-workers were able to free the man from underneath the ambulance. Unfortunately, he died at the scene of the accident. In addition to his 4-year-old daughter, the man’s wife is due with the couple’s second child later this year.

In addition to coping with her grief, this young mother also must face supporting a family of three with only one income. While a victim of a workplace accident is often entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits, many families in Massachusetts have found that dealing with an insurance company during a time of grief is more than they can handle. Fortunately, an experienced attorney can help guide grieving families through the compensation process, seeking a fair settlement and potentially reducing some of the stress created by an unexpected loss.
