The vast majority of workers in this country report to work every day in order to support themselves and their family members. While most employers strive to ensure safe working conditions, a serious, even fatal, workplace accident can occur. For example, one man was killed and another seriously injured in a recent accident in Massachusetts.

The incident occurred one afternoon in mid-June. Reports indicate that employees were working on a construction site at the time of the accident. While workers were attempting to install hoists to a building, the cab of one of the hoists fell.

A 40-year-old father of two died as a result of the accident. A second man suffered serious injuries. Although the men’s employer claims that workers were following all required safety regulations, the accident currently remains under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

While OSHA works to determine the cause of the accident, the wife of the deceased man is likely wondering how she will cope with the emotional and financial demands of raising two young children on her own. Fortunately, the workers’ compensation insurance coverage that employers in Massachusetts are required to provide employees to protect them and their families in the event of a workplace accident may help the family cope with lost wages and funeral expenses. Additionally, these benefits will likely also help the injured man with medical costs and lost wages. An attorney with experience regarding the compensation process can help the injured man and the family of the deceased worker pursue all applicable benefit payments.
