Workplace accident ends with fatality in Massachusetts

There are many occupations with known hazards. While most people think of firemen, soldiers and police officers when they think of dangerous work conditions, workers in the construction industry often face a variety of different hazards. Because any occupation can lead to a workplace accident, Massachusetts and other states have laws that protect workers from financial harm if injured at work. The accident occurred one morning in late June. Reports indicate that a 66-year-old man was working with a front-end loader. Unfortunately, he apparently became trapped by sand in the area where he was digging.

One rescue worker reports that approximately 150 feet of sand fell on the man. Rescue attempts were hindered due to the sand, but the man’s body was eventually recovered some hours later. Some reports indicate that the construction site had passed inspection a few weeks prior to the accident.

As a result of the workplace accident in Massachusetts, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will likely launch an investigation into the accident. While the report generated by the agency may be able to provide some closure to the man’s grieving family, it will do nothing to lessen the financial burden they may be facing.
