Car accidents can often lead to property damage and injury for those involved. When a pedestrian is hit by a car, the outcome may be more severe. Three pedestrians are lucky to be alive after being injured in one such collision in Massachusetts.

According to authorities, a woman in an SUV was attempting to leave a parking space when the accident occurred. Two pedestrians were crossing the street at the time. For reasons that are still unclear, the driver suddenly accelerated backwards, hitting the couple and a man walking on the sidewalk. The driver then attempted to move forward, running over two of the victims that fell under the vehicle and pinning the third victim underneath.

A witness made an effort to free the man who was trapped before police and paramedics arrived on the scene. All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment and are expected to recover. Police say that the entire incident was captured on a nearby security camera. It is unknown whether the driver will face any charges.

A pedestrian hit by a car may face significant unexpected medical bills in addition to the injuries suffered. In an attempt to offset these costs, many choose to file personal injury claims. When successful, these claims provide monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills and any other related expenses. Anyone interested in learning more about these claims and obtaining assistance with filing them can speak to an experienced Massachusetts personal injury attorney.
