A pedestrian accident can happen in Massachusetts

A Massachusetts license to operate a motor vehicle carries with it a number of responsibilities. These include following the laws of the road, adhering to posted signage and watching out for others who are on or beside the roadway. Reports indicate that in 2015, a 61-year-old female driver hit an elderly gentleman who was attempting to cross the street in a crosswalk during daylight hours. When first responders arrived, they determined that the man was seriously injured. The gentleman was transported to a local hospital, but he did not survive. After completing their investigation, police have charged the driver with vehicular homicide as a result of what appears to be operating her vehicle in a negligent manner and then not stopping to allow a pedestrian to cross while in a crosswalk.

Crosswalks are designed to allow pedestrians to safely walk from one side of the road to another. When drivers do not adhere to regulations regarding crosswalks, a tragedy can easily result. In this particular case, the life of an elderly husband, father, and grandfather was lost.
