Massachusetts police seek driver in fatal pedestrian accident

Every single driver in Massachusetts has a responsibility to those with whom they come into contact while operating a motor vehicle. Part of this responsibility involves ensuring that any negligent actions do not cause harm to someone else. If harm is caused, the law requires that the driver remain on the scene to provide aid, even if that aid is only to call emergency responders to the scene. Police say that the driver of a car involved in a recent pedestrian accident did not stay at the scene.

The accident happened one night in late May. Reports indicate that a 52-year-old male was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a car. He was taken to the hospital but passed away from the injuries he suffered in the accident.

The driver of the car that is said that have struck the victim allegedly did not remain at the scene. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the car, including color, make and a partial license plate number. The car reportedly sustained damage to its windshield. Police are hopeful that witnesses who did not remain at the scene to give a statement will step forward with additional information.

Although the driver has not been located, it is likely that Massachusetts police will locate the individual based upon the information they currently have. Meanwhile, the family of the victim of the pedestrian accident are left planning a funeral and burial. For many who have gone through a similar situation, this is not only emotionally devastating but can also cause financial complications for family members. However, if it can be proved that the driver’s negligence caused the man’s death, surviving family members could be awarded damages in a civil court proceeding commenced once the driver has been apprehended.
