Car accident in Massachusetts closes interstate for a short time

Car accidents can happen anywhere, and can affect more than those directly in the accident. If a car accident is serious enough, it can shut down roads for hours, or possibly days if enough damage is caused. However, those who suffer the greatest after a serious car accident are the victims who are injured. Unfortunately one of these accidents occurred in Massachusetts on July 24.

Around 7:30 p.m. that evening, a car and tractor-trailer collided on Interstate 95. The car accident shut down both sides of the interstate for over ten minutes. This gave the helicopter time to land, pick up the driver of the car and take off again. Then the northbound side of the interstate was opened, and an hour and a half later the two right lanes of the southbound side were reopened after being closed for investigation and cleanup.

The driver of the car was a 40-year-old native of Lexington, Massachusetts who was taken to Beth Israel soon after the accident. The tractor-trailer driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was uninjured. Investigations remained ongoing as of Thursday, and the driver of the car was still in the hospital with severe injuries.

If the state police investigation finds that the driver of the tractor-trailer driver was at fault for the car accident, the driver of the car may have the right to seek compensation in a civil lawsuit. If he does, then compensation could be awarded to help cover medical bills, lost wages from being out of work and other expenses. This would allow the victim to focus on recovering fully instead of worrying about expenses that may be acquired while recovering from his injuries.
