Car accidents: Massachusetts police investigate fatal crash

On behalf of posted in Premises Liability on Tuesday June 21, 2016

A car accident can happen at any moment. Because of this, most driver education courses emphasize defensive driving techniques that can help in avoiding car accidents. Unfortunately, even the safest driver cannot always avoid the actions of others. Police in Massachusetts are currently investigating a recent collision that resulted in a fatality.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours of a day in early June. Police claim that a vehicle driven by a 45-year-old man struck a sports utility vehicle in the rear. As a result of the collision, the driver of the SUV as well as two of her passengers were ejected from the vehicle. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The three passengers in the SUV were also transported to the hospital. One is said to be in critical condition, one suffered injuries from which she is expected to recover, and the third only suffered minor injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was also treated at the hospital but is expected to recover.

Unfortunately, those injured in an accident can face a long road to recovery, often filled with ongoing medical expenses. To further complicate their financial situation, many are unable to work while seeking treatment. Additionally, the family of the deceased woman may be left wondering how they will cope with funeral expenses and loss of wages. Fortunately, there are legal options available in Massachusetts that could lead to financial relief. If it can be proved in a civil court that the accident was caused by negligence, victims of car accidents could be awarded damages to help them cope with the financial fallout.
