Car accidents may cause death in Massachusetts

One man lost his life in a Massachusetts crash on a recent Sunday morning. The accident occurred when he was hit after stopping to help at the scene of an accident. Sadly, these types of car accidents often have catastrophic results, particularly when alcohol is involved. Two people have been arrested in connection with the tragic crash.

The crash took place at around 2:15 a.m. along Interstate 91 in Springfield. A 26-year-old man was going south in a vehicle and attempted to change lanes. He then reportedly struck the back of a vehicle that was also going south. Police said the vehicle that was hit flipped, and the car that caused the crash caught fire.

At that point, a 55-year-old man, who was operating another car, entered the vehicle scene and allegedly hit a 21-year-old man who had arrived at the scene to assist the other two motorists. The man who was struck was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased. The 26-year-old has been charged with drinking and driving, negligently operating a car, speeding, following another car too closely and unsafely making a lane change. The 55-year-old was charged with vehicle homicide due to negligent operation as well as leaving an injury or fatal crash scene.

The surviving loved ones of the man who was struck and killed may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the person whose vehicle is said to have struck him. They may seek reimbursement of the monetary damages typically caused by these types of car accidents, including funeral costs and loss of support. If the man accused of vehicular homicide is convicted in criminal court, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related Massachusetts civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability in the case.
