Massachusetts car accidents: 2 injured after car is rear-ended

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Monday November 2, 2015

The vast majority of Massachusetts drivers are safety conscious. They obey traffic signs and speed limits and generally drive in a defensive manner. Unfortunately, safe drivers cannot always avoid the actions of unsafe drivers, and serious car accidents occur all too often. While police are still investigating a recent accident, reports indicate a rear-end collision on Interstate 91 sent two people to the hospital.

The accident happened in the afternoon of a day in late October. According to reports, the injured victims were traveling north in an SUV when their vehicle was struck in the rear by another car. One of the occupants of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Unfortunately, a 45-year-old woman in the SUV suffered serious injuries. Because she was trapped in the vehicle, rescue workers had to use special equipment to extricate her. She was transported by helicopter. The road was closed for approximately three hours as a result of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

Many victims of car accidents caused by negligent drivers take some comfort when such a driver is held criminally responsible for his or her actions. While charges might give victims some closure, they are often left suffering the financial ramifications of their injuries due to lost wages and medical bills. As a result, many Massachusetts victims turn to the civil court for financial relief. In many cases where negligence can be proved, victims may receive a monetary award to help them cope with their bills and other monetary losses created by an accident.
