The Boston Globe reports that a New Hampshire judge was killed in a car accident about 60 miles north of Boston this past weekend.

The crash in Durham, New Hampshire, took the life of a 74-year-old New Hampshire Circuit Court judge based in Candia.

The judge was driving west on Route 4 when his vehicle was hit head-on by an eastbound 2004 Chrysler that was attempting to pass another vehicle at the time. The accident was about two miles west of Madbury Road.

The judge died at the scene of the crash, which happened Saturday morning just before nine.

The other driver, 22 years old, is from Wakefield, Massachusetts. He was brought to a Boston hospital for treatment of what authorities describe as serious injuries. His passenger, also a 22-year-old, is from Malden.

He was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

A New Hampshire State Police spokesperson said a report will be forthcoming from an accident reconstruction team and that at this point, no decision has been made whether to press criminal charges in the case.

In an unrelated matter, a media outlet recently gave readers an update on the condition of a critically injured student hurt in the February 2 bus crash we wrote about in this space.

The 16-year-old remains in critical condition at Boston Medical Center, according to the report.

His mother is understandably “devastated,” watching her young son suffer though “he did nothing wrong.”

The teen was one of 42 passengers on a bus that crashed into a bridge overpass on its way back to Pennsylvania following a tour of Harvard University.

More than 30 people were injured in the crash.

Just as the critically injured teen’s mother has done, many who were injured in crashes due to the negligence of another file legal claims seeking compensation for damages. In that way, they can avoid bearing the financial burden placed on them by a reckless or inattentive driver.
