Massachusetts car accidents: Multiple citations issued in crash

Safe drivers are constantly vigilant. They ignore distractions such as smartphones when they drive and obey posted speed limits and other traffic laws. Unfortunately, even safe drivers may be unable to avoid car accidents caused by negligent drivers. In a recent Massachusetts accident that sent 10 people to the hospital, one driver was issued several citations.

The crash happened one evening on a day in late June. Police claim that a pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old man was headed south on a Massachusetts road. He allegedly attempted to make a left turn, which put him into the path of a northbound sports utility vehicle driven by a 49-year-old woman.

In addition to the driver, the pickup truck contained three children, ranging in ages from six to 10. The SUV had six occupants, including the driver. Although everyone is expected to survive, all involved were transported to hospitals for treatment. The extent of the injuries suffered is unclear. Police issued the driver of the pickup truck several citations, including negligent operation and failing to use a signal, among others.

Even injuries that may seem relatively minor could cause long-term complications for victims of car accidents. In addition to requiring ongoing medical treatment, victims may be unable to return to work in the same capacity, leading to lost wages. As a result, many victims in Massachusetts seek damages by filing personal injury lawsuits. A successfully presented case could lead to a monetary award that will help with the financial ramifications created by another’s negligence.
