Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never acceptable. Unfortunately, car accidents that result from driving while intoxicated occur across the country on a regular basis. These preventable collisions often lead to serious injuries or fatalities. A Massachusetts man was recently killed in one such accident.

Police said that the alleged intoxicated driver began driving erratically and struck an SUV, pushing it into oncoming traffic. A motorcycle then crashed into the SUV, ejecting the rider. The driver believed to be at fault then continued driving, hitting several other vehicles. She was eventually apprehended by police and taken into custody.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported. Authorities stated that the woman was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident. She has since been arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury and death, negligent operation and marked lanes violation.

Coping with such a tragic loss can be a difficult time for families, both emotionally and financially. To help with the process, victim’s surviving families may choose to file wrongful death claims in civil court against a driver and/or other parties believed to be responsible. When these types of claims are successful, families may receive monetary damages that can help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other related financial expenses. Any families who have lost loved ones in car accidents have every right to consult with experienced Massachusetts attorneys to learn more.
