Massachusetts man arrested after fatal car accident

There are many people who enjoy taking a risk. For some, risks include bungee jumping or skydiving — these activities likely only risk the life of the individual person. However, other risks include speeding and driving recklessly — actions that could also place the lives of others in jeopardy. For example, one man in Massachusetts now faces charges related to reckless driving after a fatal car accident.

Reports indicate that police received reports of a car accident just before midnight one night in mid-October. Police claim that a car driven by a 30-year-old man slammed into a pole. Three of the car’s four occupants were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, one of the victims, a 29-year-old man, died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the collision. The driver of the vehicle now faces several charges, including operating to endanger and reckless operation. He is currently being held on bail.

The family of the deceased man is likely still coming to terms with the news of his sudden, seemingly preventable death. Unfortunately, they will soon have to face the financial ramifications of their loss. In addition to hospital bills and funeral expenses, they may also struggle as a result of lost wages. While the Massachusetts criminal justice system will determine what punishment — if any — is warranted due to the fatal car accident, the civil court can determine whether surviving family members of the deceased man are entitled to damages to help with these expenses. A judgment in their favor could allow them to focus on their emotional recovery rather than their financial stability.
