Massachusetts state trooper indicted for car accident

Drunk driving is often a serious offense that can be very dangerous for the driver and those around him or her, and it can lead to serious accidents that injure or even kill those involved. However, when police officers are involved in a drunk driving accident, it can shock those affected because of an officer’s responsibility to uphold the law. One officer was indicted for his involvement in a car accident in 2013 that killed two people in Massachusetts.

The accident occurred in September of 2013 at around 12:30 a.m. when the two vehicles collided. The man who caused the accident, a police officer, was found to have twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system at the time of the collision. The first victim, a 64-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The second victim, the 23-year-old daughter of the first victim, was taken to the hospital but later died from her injuries. The officer was charged with vehicular homicide while driving drunk, but he pleaded not guilty to the charge. The man continues to be suspended from the Massachusetts police department without pay.

Regardless of whether the officer is found guilty for his involvement in the car accident, the family of the deceased victims may have the right to seek monetary compensation for the losses of life. Compensation could be used by the family to pay for any of the final expenses of the victims. This could allow the family the ability to focus on coming to terms with their tragic loss instead of worrying about the expenses associated with it.
