Massachusetts woman hit by a car while on the sidewalk

There is a potential risk whenever a driver gets behind the wheel of a car and uses Massachusetts roadways. However, those who utilize sidewalks should be able to feel some degree of security, especially in regard to the risk of being hit by a car. Unfortunately, a recent hit-and-run accident will likely have many pedestrians questioning just how safe they are.

The 68-year-old female victim was reportedly walking on a sidewalk around 1 p.m. Police believe that a car jumped the sidewalk and struck the woman, severely injuring her. The driver of the car allegedly left the scene of the accident.

Police are now searching for the vehicle that struck the woman and are asking that anyone with information contact them. Police did receive reports of an erratic driver in the area. They believe the car that struck the woman was silver and sustained damage to its passenger side.

With the technology that police in Massachusetts have available, they are often able to locate the drivers of vehicles involved in incidents such as this, even when there are no direct witnesses. The injuries suffered when a person is hit by a car are often severe, requiring extensive medical treatment and a long period of recovery. Once the driver’s identity is revealed, there may be criminal charges, but the injured victim could also decide to file a personal injury claim in civil court. If her case is successfully presented, the court could award her a monetary judgment to ensure that she does not suffer financially as a result of medical bills and lost wages created by the accident.
