Shrewsbury car accident kills one woman
According to the weather almanac, Saturday December 8th in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, the high temperature was 44 degrees and the low point was 40 degrees. 0.32 inches of rain fell amid a five mile per hour wind. The moon was a waning crescent when the sun rose at 7:04 and set at 4:15. What do the weather conditions have to do with a car accident in Shrewsbury that killed a woman? Maybe nothing – but perhaps everything.
During light rain and fog at about 8:30 at night, an Audi A4 driven by a 25-year-old man struck a Honda Civic driven by a 60-year-old woman. They were both injured in the car accident and were both taken to the University of Massachusetts Campus Hospital following the fatal car accident. The woman died at the hospital as a result of her injuries.
The car crash occurred in the intersection of Route 20 and Grafton Street. The 25-year-old was traveling on Route 20 and the 60-year-old was crossing Route 20 when the crash occurred. According to an aerial view, the intersection is controlled by a traffic light. If the woman was crossing Route 20 that seems to indicate that either she was crossing with the light and the 25-year-old ran a red light — or the reverse. Or … could the fog have limited the visibility?
It seems at first glance that either the young man is responsible for the wrongful death of the older woman, or the 60-year-old’s estate is liable for the personal injury to the 25-year-old man.
The road was closed for about three hours after the accident which is being investigated by the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CMLEC) crash reconstruction team in conjunction with the Shrewsbury police department.
