Teenager killed in workplace accident

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Monday June 20, 2016

When working with large, industrial equipment, workers are often made aware of the potential dangers. Even though most companies have safety procedures in place, a workplace accident can still happen, leaving families in Massachusetts wondering how they will cope with the consequences. Unfortunately, one out-of-state family is likely still coming to terms with the news that their loved one was killed in an accident while at work.

The accident happened one afternoon on a day in mid-June. According to reports, the 19-year-old employee was working near machinery used to roll steel. Unfortunately, he was pulled into the machine and crushed.

Rescue workers were called to the scene, but it was determined that the young man was deceased. The victim had only worked for the metal processing company for approximately one month. As is typical with such accidents, the incident is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

While an investigation can hopefully shed some light on the cause of the accident, it will likely do little to relieve the grief that the family of the deceased young man is experiencing. In addition to feelings of loss, many in Massachusetts who have lost a family member in a workplace accident are left wondering how they will cope with the financial ramifications of their loss, including loss of wages and funeral expenses. Workers’ compensation insurance benefits may provide them some financial relief; however, having an experienced professional on their side can help them seek all of the benefits to which they are entitled.
