Fatal pedestrian accidents in Lowell and Townsend

Our Boston readers no doubt understand that when a car, bus or truck strikes a pedestrian, serious injuries can result. It is not uncommon for a pedestrian accident to be fatal. It is also not uncommon for pedestrians to be struck by a motor vehicle, when the pedestrian has the right of way.

It was recently reported that two pedestrians were involved in fatal accidents. One of the accidents was in Lowell and the other in Townsend. Both pedestrians were in their 50s. One was a victim of a hit-and-run driver.

The hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred at about 1:15 in the morning. Witnesses say the car was an older model gold Buick. The accident occurred on West Sixth Street in Lowell. According to the view on a Google map, the street has sidewalks on both sides of the street and frequent crosswalks in a densely populated neighborhood. The 50-year-old man died as a result of his injuries.

The second fatal pedestrian accident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. in Townsend on Wallace Hill Road. The aerial view of this street shows that it is a sparsely populated area without sidewalks or frequent crosswalks. The 57-year-old injured man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver has not yet been charged with any crime.

These two different scenarios ended up with the same result — a pedestrian fatality. Should either of the two drivers be deemed negligent, they could be held liable for the wrongful death of the pedestrian that was struck.
