On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday April 3, 2013

A 67-year-old maintenance worker was killed this morning when he was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a Cambridge street. The Edwin H. Land Boulevard pedestrian accident was around 5:15 this morning, law enforcement officials said. The East Boston man had just gotten off of work for a cleaning company that is contracted by the Royal Sonesta Hotel. He was headed home, officials said, when he was struck by a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 40-year-old Cambridge resident. The driver was not injured. Massachusetts State Police are investigating the accident with crime units, detectives and accident reconstruction specialists. No charges…

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday March 27, 2013

Boston media outlets are reporting that a former New Hampshire police officer has been accused of being in a hit-and-run car accident that injured two teenaged pedestrians. The Manchester man was fired from that city's police department after an investigation into the allegations. The 41-year-old is accused of hitting the boys, 17 and 18 years old, and fleeing as one teen lay in the road with head injuries that include bleeding on his brain. The other boy suffered a broken right elbow. He ran to a neighbor's house; the neighbor, a nurse, called 911 and went to help the other boy. Police…

Hit-and-run driver seriously injures Boston pedestrian

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Friday November 9, 2012

Halloween in recent years has become an excuse for adults to dress up in costumes and hit the town. Zombie pub crawls are also popular events. This past Halloween the owner of an Allston tattoo shop was struck by an SUV and suffered serious injuries. The SUV driver did not stop. When a motorist strikes a pedestrian in a crosswalk, it is highly probably that the motorist could be found negligent and liable for the personal injuries suffered by the pedestrian. The injured person is within their rights to sue for compensation for their injuries, potentially including pain and suffering.…

Alleged drunk driver kills National Guard member

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Friday September 28, 2012

Whenever someone dies in a car accident, it is a tragic loss for the surviving family members. That tragedy can be compounded however by the circumstances of the victim's life. When someone is a member of the armed services, it does not seem just. If the victim has a young child, the tragedy gains extra poignancy. Recently a young National Guard member was killed in a senseless car accident, leaving behind a 3-year-old son. The 24-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident, allegedly a victim of a drunk driver. The accident occurred on North Main Street (Route 152) in Attleboro…

Fatal pedestrian accidents in Lowell and Townsend

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday September 26, 2012

Our Boston readers no doubt understand that when a car, bus or truck strikes a pedestrian, serious injuries can result. It is not uncommon for a pedestrian accident to be fatal. It is also not uncommon for pedestrians to be struck by a motor vehicle, when the pedestrian has the right of way. It was recently reported that two pedestrians were involved in fatal accidents. One of the accidents was in Lowell and the other in Townsend. Both pedestrians were in their 50s. One was a victim of a hit-and-run driver. The hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred at about 1:15 in…

Hit-and-run driver identified in fatal pedestrian accident

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday August 1, 2012

Occasionally a news story leads to more questions than it answers. Why was a pedestrian standing in the middle of a Massachusetts highway at 1:15 in the morning? And why would someone strike an object, stop the car, but then leave the scene of an accident? Recently it was reported that a 29-year-old man from Needham was apparently standing in the middle or Route 24 near Randolph when he was struck by a car. The vehicle was driven by a 20-year-old man from Norton. The 29-year-old pedestrian was fatally injured. According to the police, there were people in the area…

Bicyclist fatally injured in hit-and-run accident

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Sunday June 17, 2012

A recent news report leaves more questions than it provides answers. Why would a bicyclist be on the road at 2:00 in the morning? Why would a car strike a bicyclist in an intersection with traffic control lights? How could someone fatally strike a bicyclist and then drive away? A 23-year-old woman from West Yarmouth is expected to be charged for a fatal hit-and-run accident. In addition to the criminal charges, she could be held liable in civil court for the wrongful death of the cyclist. News sources stated that the accident was reported at 2:00 a.m., although the time of…

New Bedford man killed in hit-and-run accident

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Monday April 23, 2012

Pedestrians are supposedly offered additional safety when they cross the street in a crosswalk area. Sadly, that is no guarantee of safety. Pedestrians, either in or out of crosswalks, should exercise caution when crossing a street. An elderly pedestrian was crossing a street when he was struck by a car, and later died of his hit-and-run accident injuries. The accident took place while the 76-year-old man was crossing Rockdale Avenue, the street on which he lived. The man was a resident of Hallmark Nursing Home in New Bedford, Massachusetts. According to the police, there were witnesses to the accident. Witnesses reported that…
