We have posted several blogs during the past year about pedestrian accidents. There were four in November, four posts in October and ten during the summer months. Pedestrian accidents are regular occurrences and they are often fatal. It was recently reported that pedestrian accident injuries are driving changes in Massachusetts. Quincy in particular has announced that the city is beefing up enforcement as well as education in an effort to stem the injuries and fatalities. Elderly driver fatally strikes elderly pedestrian in Quincy

Quincy Avenue in Quincy, Massachusetts has two lanes going in either direction. There are sidewalks on either side of the road, but to cross the road there are widely spaced crosswalks at busy intersections. At about 5:00 in the late afternoon, an 84-year-old man was crossing the street near Kam Man Market Kam Man Market when he was struck by a car driven by a 92-year-old woman. Both the pedestrian and the driver lived in Quincy. The car and pedestrian accident resulted in serious injuries for the pedestrian, who later died as a result. Imagine that you are driving somewhere in Quincy late at night. Imagine that you look down briefly while driving and then when you look up there are two men right in front of your truck. You don't have time to stop and you hit them. What would happen next? Speed limit postings on residential streets in Massachusetts can be as low 15 miles per hour in a school zone to as much as 40 miles per hour or more.
