Massachusetts highway accidents: 2 injured in collision
Tractor-trailers serve a vital role in this country’s economy by moving goods from place to place in a relatively efficient manner. Many drivers are well-trained professionals who simply want to earn a living and preserve their own safety as well as the safety of those they may encounter on the roadways. Unfortunately, mistakes made by tractor-trailer drivers can result in serious highway accidents. For example, two people in Massachusetts suffered serious injuries in a collision with such a vehicle.
The accident happened one night in late January. Police say that the 55-year-old driver of a tractor-trailer was attempting to turn left on a Massachusetts roadway. Unfortunately, a sports utility vehicle containing a 36-year-old male driver and 28-year-old female passenger struck the truck.
The occupants of the SUV were pinned in the vehicle, requiring rescue workers to extricate them with specialized equipment. While the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, both of the SUV’s occupants suffered serious injuries, with the male requiring transportation by helicopter. The accident, which occurred in Framingham, remains under investigation.
Victims of highway accidents know the potential ramifications all too well. When a victim suffers serious injuries, there is likely a long recovery period, sometimes including surgery. In addition to medical bills, these people will likely face lost wages as they recover. However, they have the option of seeking compensation for the financial costs of their injuries in a civil court. If they can prove that the accident was caused by the driver of the tractor-trailer, they could receive an award for damages to cover these, in addition to pain and suffering and other financial losses.
