Massachusetts jogger may be latest victim of wrongful death

Having a valid driver’s license is not really a right; rather it is a privilege that is extended when one passes the tests and obeys the laws of the road. However, there are individuals who will still attempt to drive, even when they have lost the privilege through abuse of that right. One Massachusetts resident may have just become a victim of a wrongful death due to this type of negligent driver.

The woman who died was taking time out during her jog to speak with a friend for a few moments. Unfortunately, that was her last conversation. A driver operating an SUV came around a turn and struck the 20-year-old college student. The impact tossed the woman’s body several yards.

Massachusetts police have not stated whether the victim was transported to a hospital or if she died at the scene from her injuries. They have reported that the driver who hit her did so on a newly suspended license after having been recently involved in two other accidents where he was deemed at fault. The report went on to state that the driver has an extensive history of driving violations going back more than 25 years.

This 44-year-old driver has now been charged with vehicular homicide among other crimes. However, the damage this time can’t be undone, and the young woman who was dreaming of a career after college has had her dreams extinguished. The victim’s surviving family are entitled to pursue a wrongful death civil suit against this man who has taken their loved one from them. There is no litigation that can ease the grief they are experiencing, but monetary compensation may relieve any burdens imposed by the financial losses they may have sustained.
