CHELMSFORD, MA – A 65-year-old woman operating a Volkswagen Taos hit a BMW head-on I-495, injuring herself and a 75-year-old man and woman.

NBC Boston said this collision happened before 10 a.m. Wednesday when the Volkswagen driver drifted from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes. It is not immediately clear what caused the 65-year-old woman to swerve into the opposite lanes. The impact of this collision trapped the 75-year-old man (the BMW driver).

Firefighters were able to extricate the 75-year-old man after cutting off the BMW roof. He, along with the passenger with him – the 75-year-old woman — was sent to the hospital. First responders airlifted the man to the hospital, while the 75-year-old woman and Volkswagen driver were transported by ground to a medical facility.

The 65-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. The conditions of the 75-year-old man and woman are not immediately apparent.
