On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Wednesday November 26, 2014

Contractors provide a wide variety of valuable services. They are knowledgeable in their specialized fields and offer their services to whomever seeks out their skill and experience. Unfortunately, not every job goes as planned, and one can be injured on the job when unforeseen circumstances arise. One contractor suffered serious burns while working at a Massachusetts high school. While details are sketchy at this time, the report indicated that a man was reportedly working to install a heater in a technical high school in Danvers. Students reported hearing a loud sound and felt the reverberations from an explosion. Pupils were directed to leave the building immediately following the gas-fueled blast.…

Massachusetts man injured on the job in serious condition

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Monday September 22, 2014

Every job carries a certain degree of risk, no matter how many precautions the employee may take. However, there may be some occupations that are inherently more dangerous and may result in a worker being injured on the job. Jobs that require a worker to ascend ladders pose a greater danger, as one Massachusetts man knows only too well. The man, who is employed by Comcast cable, was on-site at a residential building around 11 a.m. on a recent weekday. He was reportedly working on wiring for the cable system while approximately two-stories above the ground. For reasons that are not yet clear, the man…

Workplace accident causes fines for Massachusetts bakery

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Tuesday November 5, 2013

Workplace accidents can result in substantial fines and penalties from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration if the company in question is found to be in violation of safety regulations or allowing unsafe practices in their workplace. When someone is injured on the job in Massachusetts, a worker's compensation claim can coincide with the OSHA investigation. The worker's compensation claim can help provide the person who had the workplace accident with often sorely needed insurance benefits to cover medical bills and lost income for time missed from the job while recovering. A Massachusetts bakery was recently cited by OSHA after one of the bakery's…

Is Massachusetts workers’ compensation enough?

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Friday October 11, 2013

When an employee is injured or dies on the job, workers' compensation benefits are set in motion. With the high costs of funeral expenses, workers' compensation benefits in Massachusetts may not be enough since the maximum amount paid is $4000. The Families of Fallen Workers Burial Act may raise the amount of benefits paid out. The new bill would raise the benefit payout from $4,000 to $8,000. At this time, families can expect to pay a minimum of $9,000 for a general funeral and the average cost for a funeral is almost $7,800. One family member that was affected was forced to…

Are doctors overprescribing opioids for those on workers’ comp?

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Thursday May 23, 2013

Boston media outlets have in recent years been reporting on the rise in prescription drug use and abuse. Some observers are now saying part of the problem might stem from doctors who prescribe opioids to patients who are injured on the job and are receiving workers' compensation benefits. The overprescription of the potent-pain killers is "a big problem, and it's a growing problem" says a medical epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There are statistics to back his statement: of the more than 40,000 fatal drug overdoses every year in the United States, more than half involve prescription drugs.…
