Contractors provide a wide variety of valuable services. They are knowledgeable in their specialized fields and offer their services to whomever seeks out their skill and experience. Unfortunately, not every job goes as planned, and one can be injured on the job when unforeseen circumstances arise. One contractor suffered serious burns while working at a Massachusetts high school.

While details are sketchy at this time, the report indicated that a man was reportedly working to install a heater in a technical high school in Danvers. Students reported hearing a loud sound and felt the reverberations from an explosion. Pupils were directed to leave the building immediately following the gas-fueled blast. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. shortly before the conclusion of the instructional day.

The man, whose age was not available, suffered second-degree burn injuries to his arms, face and neck areas. No students or staff were injured in the explosion. The man was taken for treatment of his non-life threatening wounds. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing.

There was no indication as to whether the building sustained any structural damage in this incident. The worker may require some time to recover from his wounds as burns to the face are considered serious injuries. Massachusetts has comprehensive workers’ compensation laws that provide for benefits to be available for many of those employed as contractors who are injured on the job. This worker has every right to seek assistance in pursuing all compensation and care to which he is likely entitled under the law.
