Massachusetts car accidents: 4 injured, drag racing suspected

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Wednesday April 22, 2015

People often make imprudent choices in their lives for a variety of different reasons, with a variety of different outcomes. These decisions could, unfortunately, harm many people. For example, people who choose to engage in street racing could potentially cause harm to themselves as well as other users of the roadways if their actions result in car accidents. Police in Massachusetts believe that three people were recently sent to the hospital as a result of street racing.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. one night in mid-April. An ambulance returning from a call reportedly called in a report of two cars traveling at a high rate of speed. Soon afterward, the ambulance reported a three-car accident. One of the cars that was believed to have been racing apparently collided with two other vehicles who were simply using the roadway.

As a result, one of the suspected drag racers, a 26-year-old male, was transported to the hospital. The identify of the second suspected racer is unclear at this time, and it appears that he or she did not remain at the scene. Two other people, drivers of the two cars not believed to be involved in the race, were also injured. While a fourth person was taken to the hospital, it is unclear how he or she was involved. No one is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Those injured in this accident are fortunate to be alive. However, they will likely soon realize the financial toll that the injuries they suffered in the accident may have on their lives. In addition to medical bills, they may also have to cope with lost wages as they miss work to recover. As a result, at least two of the victims — perhaps three — could win an award of damages to help cope with these ramifications in a Massachusetts civil court if negligence can be proved. By pursuing legal recourse, innocent victims of car accidents can potentially ensure that negligent drivers are held accountable and that they receive compensation to cover the costs and other damages stemming from such an event.
