Pedestrian accident in Massachusetts kills pregnant woman

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday August 7, 2013

Fatal accidents are always traumatic, but when the victim is a pedestrian the outcome can be even more devastating. A recent pedestrian accident that occurred in Massachusetts illustrates this point. The pedestrian, who was a woman, was killed on July 21, and to make matters worse, she was pregnant. The pregnant woman was killed after she was struck by a car. When first responders arrived at approximately 8:45 p.m., the woman was lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical treatment was given until a helicopter arrived and transported her to Massachusetts General Hospital. It was there that she later succumbed…

No one ever thinks that when they leave their home to go on a walk in their neighborhood they may never make it back safely. This is exactly what happened to a 67-year-old Massachusetts man in Worcester. A neighbor reports finding the man lying face down in the road after being hit by a car versus pedestrian accident. The man was transported to the hospital. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident. The woman who hit the victim has not been charged with a crime at this point, though police are still investigating the circumstances…

Massachusetts car accident injures 3

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Tuesday July 2, 2013

During the busiest travel time in most cities, a roll-over collision involving two vehicles, a cargo van and an SUV, shut down traffic for a brief time in one section of Longmeadow, Massachusetts. The car accident was reported to police and rescuers around 5:00 p.m. on a recent afternoon. A total of three people were injured. After the initial crash, the SUV that was involved in the accident did not remain on the street. It continued traveling on a trajectory that carried it into the hatchway of a house near the road. The home sustained some damage, but luckily, no one in…

A 36-year-old visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was killed in a Back Bay bicycle accident last weekend. The native of Japan had been working at MIT since last fall. According to a media report, Boston police are investigating the accident near Kenmore Square which might have involved a garbage truck. The truck was reportedly "seen fleeing the accident scene." Investigators said they are not yet sure of the cause of the fatal accident, and have declined to describe it as a hit-and-run. Investigators found the scientist's body on Beacon Street and her mangled bicycle about a half-mile away. The…

Young pedestrian dies in accident with van

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Friday May 17, 2013

Drivers in Boston and across New England know that it's important to keep an eye out for pedestrians. Particularly in congested city neighborhoods, people traveling on foot may not always cross the street at intersections with designated traffic signals for walkers. And in some areas there may not be crosswalks available. While pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks whenever possible, children especially may not be as careful about doing this. Young people are often less aware of their surroundings and may forget to thoroughly check for oncoming traffic before running out into the street. The loved ones of a 12-year-old boy who…

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday March 27, 2013

Boston media outlets are reporting that a former New Hampshire police officer has been accused of being in a hit-and-run car accident that injured two teenaged pedestrians. The Manchester man was fired from that city's police department after an investigation into the allegations. The 41-year-old is accused of hitting the boys, 17 and 18 years old, and fleeing as one teen lay in the road with head injuries that include bleeding on his brain. The other boy suffered a broken right elbow. He ran to a neighbor's house; the neighbor, a nurse, called 911 and went to help the other boy. Police…

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday March 20, 2013

Earlier this week, two men were sitting in a bar about 15 miles south of Boston when one got up around 8:30 p.m. without paying his bill and left the establishment. The 48-year-old went outside and got into his car. The other man, 38 years old, reportedly followed him outside the Weymouth pub and told him to go back in and pay his tab. The first man put his car in reverse and backed up, hitting the second man and pinning him against another vehicle in the parking lot. The pedestrian sustained severe blunt force injuries, according to police. The 48-year-old allegedly…

Two tragic Massachusetts pedestrian accidents

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Monday March 4, 2013

Massachusetts State Police said they are investigating a recent pedestrian accident in which a 66-year-old election lawyer lost his life. The William Day Boulevard accident happened last Wednesday evening just before eight in the South Boston neighborhood. U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch described the man as a long-time friend who had helped him many times. The 33-year-old driver of the Range Rover that struck the attorney stayed at the scene of the accident. He apparently did not display signs that he was intoxicated. No charges have been filed. In a separate incident, a 69-year-old Worcester woman was killed in a pedestrian accident that same night as…

Accident-reduction innovation: Pedestrian airbags

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday February 20, 2013

Massachusetts has a fondness for affordable family autos, according to state vehicle registration figures examined by MSN.com. Our three favorite vehicles are the Honda CR-V, the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Corolla. Perhaps one day the list will include the new Volvo V40, the first car fitted with airbags for pedestrians. The Swedish automaker always strives to be on the cutting edge of safety technology (it was first on the market with a three-point seatbelt). Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2013 model of the V40 is available in Australia, but is apparently not currently slated to be sold in…
