Motorcycle safety precautions that could reduce injuries

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday December 17, 2014

While most Massachusetts motorcycle riders enjoy traveling along the highways and roadways on their bikes, many also know that motorcycles are more dangerous than driving in cars. In fact, motorcycle riders are approximately 30 times more likely to die in a car accident than those who use motor vehicles as their primary mode of transportation. However, there are always certain safety precautions that riders can use to reduce the risk of serious injury or death. One of the simplest ways a motorcyclist can reduce the risk of injury or death is to wear a helmet. Full-face helmets provide more protection…

Motorcycles can be very dangerous when a rider has limited protection. Helmets can save lives in some situations, but motorcyclists are still reportedly 35 times more likely to perish in a traffic accident than people in cars. Riders without a helmet are 40 percent more likely than ones without to die of a head injury during an accident. According to a 2009 report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, over half of fatal motorcycle accidents involve another vehicles. Working to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday June 25, 2014

Improving weather conditions lead to an increase in the number of motorcycles on the roads, and law enforcement agencies are urging both drivers and riders to do their part to keep injuries and fatalities to a minimum. According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, 35 people died in motorcycle accidents in 2013, which is a modest improvement over previous years. Many of these fatalities occur when motorists fail to see motorcycles before making turns, pulling out into traffic or changing lanes. Remembering to look out for those on two wheels will help, according to a Hingham police sergeant, but accidents happen even…

Motorcycle rider injured in Massachusettts

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Thursday May 15, 2014

Motorcycles can be a gas saving alternative to a full size automobile, but they do not offer the protection that many cars provide to their occupants. Unfortunately, this can mean that individuals that are riding a motorcycle when in an accident can be seriously injured, while those in a vehicle may remain unscathed. One motorcycle accident in Massachusetts recently injured an individual who was on a motorcycle. The accident took place on May 7 at around 5 p.m. and involved one car and one motorcycle. The collision occurred after the automobile pulled out in front of the motorcycle, and the rider…

Several Massachusetts riders injured in motorcycle accidents

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday November 6, 2013

Massachusetts motorcycle riders are well aware of the dangers that exist when riding on open roads with other motor vehicles. The negligence of other drivers is very apparent to motorcyclists, and many find it necessary to stay alert and be ready to act in case they are put in harm's way. The lack of protection that motorcyclists have can add even more risk to these dangerous situations, and they can often be seriously injured or even killed. This year, in the southeast region of Massachusetts alone, 11 motorcycle accidents have occurred and at least two people have been killed. The first death happened on…

Motorcycles can quickly change from a fun efficient way to travel to a deadly vehicle if precautions are not taken by the rider and other drivers on the road. Motorcycles do not have as many safety measures as cars or trucks. This, combined with the negligence that is often the root cause of an accident involving a motorcycle, can create a very hazardous situation quickly. A man in Massachusetts was seriously injured recently after being involved in a motorcycle accident between his bike and a van. On Aug. 30 at around 11:30 a.m., a man operating a van was making a left…

Motorcycle accidents can severely injure Massachusetts riders

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Friday August 23, 2013

Motorcycles may be fun and economical, but they may not be the safest choice of motor vehicles. The lack of protection that a motorcycle is equipped with, combined with their small size, decreases the safety of these vehicles. This combined with the negligence that other drivers have can increase the chance of an accident. When motorcycle accidents occur, the outcome is often severe or even fatal. Unfortunately, a recent accident here in Massachusetts left one rider seriously burned and another injured. On July 30, a motorcycle and an SUV collided at around 11 a.m. Soon after this collision, another motorcycle rider struck…

Massachusetts motorcyclist severely injured at intersection

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Thursday July 4, 2013

People living in Massachusetts know how dangerous motorcycle accidents can be. For one, a motorcyclist is generally heavily exposed on the road, and the possibility for severe injury or death to occur as a result of this vulnerability is very high. Additionally, when high speeds and hard-to-see vehicles are involved, sometimes one of these unfortunate accidents is all but unavoidable. One such motorcyclist was injured recently after his bike crashed into another car while crossing an intersection. The accident happened a little after 8 p.m. Officials say the 29-year-old motorcyclist was driving south when an elderly driver crossed into the intersection and…
