Slippery icy road in Walpole potential cause of serious injuries

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Monday December 3, 2012

Winter weather brings the potential for snow, sleet, freezing rain and other hazardous road conditions. Those of us in Massachusetts who drive in bad weather are accustomed to navigating a tailspin, although it always takes us one or two snowstorms before our snow driving skills return. Four people were seriously injured on Interstate 95 near Walpole. The cause of the car accident is being investigated by Troop H of the state police, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Service Section. It appears that a slippery snowy road may have been a factor. The other thing that…

Doctor on drugs crashes car, injures 1 in Wellesley

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Friday November 16, 2012

There are a few inventions which have revolutionized the way we live and work. One of them could arguably be the computer. A close second might be video and digital recording. Recently in Wellesley one of the millions of surveillance cameras in the country happened to catch a car accident that seemed to occur in milliseconds. The driver of an SUV is a 56-year-old doctor who was accused of being drunk and on drugs when she crashed her car into another, injuring the other driver. The accident took place at about 9:00 in the morning near a Whole Foods store. The video…

Bike helmets save lives, Boston promotes their usage

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Monday October 29, 2012

Cars and bicycles are sharing the roads more and more often in the Boston area. It was recently reported that there has been a 30 percent increase in bicycling during the last two years thanks to 57 miles of new bike lanes and The Hubway bike share program. According to The Hubway's Facebook page, the program was launched last year and includes a fleet of 610 bikes at 61 stations. Despite the increase in riders, the number of accidents has dropped by 25 percent. In concert with this increase in bicyclists, Boston has launched a safety campaign promoting the use…

MIT: Cellphone Use While Driving May Just Indicate Lousy Drivers

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Monday October 22, 2012

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently published a study about the dangers of driving while using a cellphone. Their findings raise questions about the effectiveness of criminalizing cellphone use behind the wheel. The MIT study suggests the real problem may be drivers who engage in risky driving behavior with or without using cellphones. The study does not dispute the well-established facts linking cellphone use while driving with higher accident rates. Peer-reviewed psychological studies have found that even talking on a hands-free phone while driving can impair reaction time as much as drinking can-though talking with people present in the vehicle…

The Dangers of Back-to-School Traffic

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Monday September 24, 2012

The nation just got through the first few weeks of school this fall and with it came the usual added stress on drivers and kids to stay safe. The reasons are obvious for an increase in the risk of motor vehicle accidents near schools, with or around school buses and in neighborhoods with children. Kids are little and harder to see, and more likely as pedestrians or bicyclists to forget to observe traffic safety rules or to move impulsively. Most children are killed as pedestrians in the after-school hours. Bursts of traffic are also likely to accompany resumption of classes at colleges…

Bicyclist struck by car in East Boxford, seriously injured

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Wednesday September 5, 2012

The view from a Google map shows us that Topsfield Road in East Boxford is a small two lane road without much in the way of shoulders. The road winds through a primarily residential area. Any bicyclist riding on this road would need to stick close to the side of the road, but would be forced to share the road with motor vehicles. Conversely, cars would be sharing the road with bicyclists. Sadly, that did not happen last week and a 54-year-old bicyclist from Ipswich was struck by a car driven by a 21-year-old man from North Andover. The bicycle…
