On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Saturday January 12, 2013

Ever feel frustrated at seeing litter strewn across the road? How about driving along and hoping that the floating plastic bag weaving across the freeway isn't stuck to the front of your cars grill? If that much litter bothers you, you probably wanted to avoid I-93 North for a while as a recent crash left roughly 94,000 pounds of trash spilled across three lanes. On Tuesday, January 8, 2013, a truck accident involving an overturned 18-wheeler filled with trash spread the contents of the trailer across the highway. The crash was so bad that highway signs updated drivers of the delays and…

Fatal pedestrian accident at local Boston hospital

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday January 2, 2013

Over the holiday, an incident at a local Boston hospital reinforces the statistics and reasoning behind the rearview cameras discussed in the last blog. One life that was just lost could have potentially benefitted from such a requirement in vehicles, especially large ones with many blind spots. A pedestrian was hit by a truck that was backing up on the grounds of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. The accident occurred around 1:30pm on Christmas Eve at the intersection of Warren and Nevins Street in a loading zone near the hospital entrance and parking garage. The 80 year old victim was hit by…

Truck strikes and kills Boston University student on bicycle

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Friday December 7, 2012

The weight disparity between a tractor trailer truck and a bicyclist is enormous. Should an accident occur, the person on the bicycle is almost certain to suffer serious personal injuries. It was recently reported that there have been five fatal bicycle accidents in the Boston area, each of them caused by a truck, bus or trolley. Recently a Boston University graduate student became one of those statistics when he was struck by a semi truck and died as a result of his personal injuries. The accident occurred at about 8:30 in the morning in the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and…

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Friday October 5, 2012

At 7:45 in the morning, Belmont Street in Brockton is a busy road. Belmont is the same street that had the serious bicyclist accident in our post earlier this week. The speed limit might be 35 miles per hour, but witnesses to a recent truck accident say that a green Ford F-150 may have been traveling up to 70 miles per hour when it crashed into a parked red Ford F-150. The 28-year-old driver of the green pickup truck was seriously injured as a result. According to news reports, the 28-year-old may have been unconscious at the time of the accident. The…

Box truck injures biker in Middleton

On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Monday September 24, 2012

When a motorcycle or truck accident occurs in Boston or anywhere and someone is injured, it may be only the injured person who knows what happened to cause the accident. If the injured person is unconscious, it may be left up to an accident reconstruction team to try and figure out what happened in a motor vehicle accident. Recently a motorcyclist and a box truck were involved in a collision in Middleton. The biker suffered serious injuries in the bike and truck accident, and thus may be unable to describe the events at this time. An accident reconstruction team was called…

Bicyclist seriously injured by truck in Medway

On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Friday September 14, 2012

Main Street in Medway is a tree-lined two-lane road. Google maps show that there is a sidewalk on one side of the road and there appears to be a clearly marked bike lane on either side of the road. The road is straight near the portion where it intersects with a cull-de-sac called Thunder Hill Road. It was along Main Street near Thunder Hill Road at 3:38 in the afternoon that a 20-year-old bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck which may have been a commercial vehicle. The bicycle-truck accident resulted in serious personal injuries for the biker. The news…

Fatal boatyard accident blamed on truck brakes

On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Thursday June 7, 2012

According to a recent study, one of the 10 most dangerous jobs in the country is truck driving. The most dangerous job is fishing. Two of those professions intersected recently when a truck driver at a Quincy boatyard was killed in an accident. According to news sources, the truck accident involved a fuel driver who was outside of his truck on the ground, when his truck rolled into the man, pinning him against a fence. Apparently the truck that pinned him was the fuel truck that the man drove. The way that the accident happened is slightly confusing, and is under investigation.…

A rare happy ending after Chelsea truck crash

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Saturday May 19, 2012

If you see a headline reading "Rollover Truck Accident," you may not think it possible for the story to have a happy ending. And yet, oddly, that happened for a man who was driving a pickup truck involved in a rollover crash. According to news sources, a Boston car accident that caused the pickup truck rollover, occurred as a man was speeding away from police. The pickup driver was struck by a Ford Mustang driven by the 43-year-old man who was fleeing. Apparently, the Boson police were attempting to stop the 43-year-old for a minor traffic violation, when the driver sped off.…

Alleged gross negligence leads to truck accident fatality

On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Monday April 30, 2012

It is always sad to lose a loved one in an accident. It may be even sadder when the accident could have been prevented, or was due to gross negligence. An accident involving a truck which lost part of its cargo, resulted in the serious injury of a woman driving a minivan and her two children, as well as the death of her mother who was a passenger. The family of the 70-year-old woman who died has filed a wrongful death law suit against National Grid; the trucking company which they claim caused the fatal accident. The accident occurred last August on…

Longer, Heavier Trucks Contemplated By Congress

On behalf of posted in Truck Accidents on Monday February 27, 2012

The House Transportation Committee recently debated the impact of longer, heavier trucks on the nation's highways. During discussions for funding a five-year transportation bill, the committee considered amendments that would permit trucks up to 110-feet in length and weighing 126,000 pounds. Three-Year Study Requested Concerns were raised that these changes would compromise safety of other vehicles and increase the risk of truck accidents. The heavier trucks could also damage local roads that were built to less robust standards than the interstate highway system. The vote went along party lines, with Republicans backing trucking interests and Democrats opposing the larger trucks. The…
