New Year’s Eve late night celebration brings mourning

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Monday January 7, 2013

New Year's Eve is always a time for celebration. The possibilities brought on by the new year, new resolutions, and a new outlook for what lies ahead are endless. While the evening's festivities are intended to lead to a good time, one Massachusetts man may regret where his excessive drinking this New Year's Eve directed his possibilities. The man has been charged in a fatal car accident where he took a wrong northbound turn on the southbound side of Gillis Bridge in Newburyport. The man's Lincoln Town Car collided with a Mercury Grand Marquis injuring all involved and leading to one passenger's…

Pedestrian accident injuries drive changes in Massachusetts

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Monday December 17, 2012

We have posted several blogs during the past year about pedestrian accidents. There were four in November, four posts in October and ten during the summer months. Pedestrian accidents are regular occurrences and they are often fatal. It was recently reported that pedestrian accident injuries are driving changes in Massachusetts. Quincy in particular has announced that the city is beefing up enforcement as well as education in an effort to stem the injuries and fatalities. Quincy is taking the somewhat unusual step of having police officers pose as pedestrians in order to give traffic citations to drivers who ignore the laws meant…

Truck strikes and kills Boston University student on bicycle

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Friday December 7, 2012

The weight disparity between a tractor trailer truck and a bicyclist is enormous. Should an accident occur, the person on the bicycle is almost certain to suffer serious personal injuries. It was recently reported that there have been five fatal bicycle accidents in the Boston area, each of them caused by a truck, bus or trolley. Recently a Boston University graduate student became one of those statistics when he was struck by a semi truck and died as a result of his personal injuries. The accident occurred at about 8:30 in the morning in the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and…

Are the MBTA Red Line platforms safe?

On behalf of posted in Commercial Vehicle Accidents on Wednesday November 28, 2012

Public transportation in Boston should be safe transportation. When a bus is boarded, one should expect that the driver has not been drinking. When a train passes through an intersection, it should do so with the safety of the train passengers as well as motorists or pedestrians near the tracks. And when a person is waiting for the train, the platform should be well it, well marked and wide enough so that commuters or other passengers can get on and off the train safely and not fall onto the tracks. And yet that is what has happened on more than…

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Monday November 26, 2012

In some ways the New England Country Musical Festival is like many others. There are young people attending, many of whom are underage drinkers. Tailgating is an exceedingly common activity although the venue staff may patrol the area to curb excessive or illegal consumption. In one important way the New England Country Musical Festival is not like many others. The venue owners are the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit due to a fatal drunk driving accident. The lawsuit has reached the court four years after the deaths of two young girls and the serious personal injury of their friend. The…

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Wednesday November 14, 2012

At 2:45 in the morning, the intersection of Saratoga and Park Streets in Lawrence would probably be fairly quiet. Motorcycle passenger killed in Dartmouth crash

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday November 7, 2012

For those in the northeast, it may be nearing the end of motorcycling season. It is not as pleasant out and roads can be slippery with rain or ice at this time of year. A recent motorcycle accident illustrates that although other motorists frequently are the cause of motorcycle crashes, a single-motorcycle accident is also a frequent occurrence. A motorcycle accident took place at 4:30 in the afternoon in Dartmouth, so daylight visibility should not have been a problem. The motorcyclist had a passenger on board when he crashed his bike. The biker suffered life-threatening injuries and the 39-year-old female passenger died…
